President Signs S.846 Into Law Awarding Congressional Gold Medal to Dr. Muhammad Yunus
On the 5th of October, 2010 President Obama signed into law the Congressional Bill which awarded the Congressional Gold Medal to Professor Yunus.
The press release from the Office of the Press Secretary of the White House reads: "S. 846, which provides for the award of a congressional gold medal to Dr. Muhammad Yunus in recognition of his contributions to the fight against global poverty;". By being awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, Professor Yunus joins an exclusive group of individuals who have won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. They are Martin Luther King Jr., Elie Wiesel, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Norman Borlaug, Aung San Suu Kyi; and now Professor Yunus.
The award ceremony of the Congressional Gold Medal to Professor Yunus will take place in early 2011.
