Hollywood’s Emmy Award Winner Yeardley Smith in Dhaka
A distinguished member of the famous global TV family "The Simpsons" is here in Dhaka. Cartoon character Lisa Simpson is here not in person, but through the person who gives her voice in the series:  Yeardley Smith. She arrived in Dhaka on July 20 for a week-long visit to study Grameen Bank and other initiatives of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus. A long-time admirer of Professor Yunus, Smith has visited and provided support to Grameen microcredit programs in Haiti and other countries. A special episode of the Simpsons focusing on Grameen microcredit and Professor Yunus will be aired in October 2010 in the US. The recording of Professor Yunus' voice has been completed and the episode is ready to be aired.
Emmy Award winning Yeardley Smith, comic actress and vocal specialist, is the voice of Lisa Simpson - the brainy, saxophone playing, environmentally-conscious elder daughter of the Simpsons - one of the best known TV families in the world. In 1986, when the Simpsons made their TV debut on the Tracey Ullman Show, Smith was cast into the role of Lisa Simpson.
"The Simpsons" is an American animated television series created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series and the Simpsons (consisting of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie) themselves are a satire of the stereotypical American, working-class family. The show is set in the fictional city of Springfield, and lampoons American culture, society, television and many aspects of the human condition. Since its debut on December 17, 1989 the show has broadcast 464 episodes and the twenty-first season finished airing on May 23, 2010. "The Simpsons" is the longest-running American animated program, and in 2009, surpassed "Gunsmoke" as the longest running American primetime entertainment series.
During Yeardley Smith's visit to Bangladesh, she visited Grameen Danone, met Grameen Shikkha scholarship recipients, Grameen Eye Care Hospital, Grameen Shakti Solar Home System and Grameen Bank Branches.
