The Philosophy and Economics Program of the University of Bayreuth bestowed the Bayreuth Leadership Award upon outstanding individuals, in recognition of his thought and actions both of which meet the ethical and economic ideals of “Philosophy and Economics”. Laureates are those individuals who inspire us and advance the development of humanity, applying their knowledge and charisma toward achieving social and economic goals.  

SolarWorld AG this year honored Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and micro-finance pioneer Muhammad Yunus by presenting the 2010 SolarWorld Einstein Award to him. Professor Yunus received the award in recognition of his contributions to the nonprofit social business company “Grameen Shakti” that Professor Yunus founded in 1996, which since its inception has dedicated itself to providing energy to off-grid rural regions of Bangladesh.

The Executive Committee of PICMET (Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology) has selected Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the recipient of the PICMET’08 LTM (Leadership in Technology Management) Award. It will be presented to him at the Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2009 during the PICMET’09 Conference in Hilton Hotel and Executive Tower in Portland, Oregon – USA

President Obama today named 16 recipients of the 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom.   America’s highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who make an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
